The museum houses a selection of many artworks still visible in the seventy-seven sacred buildings of the island, including basilicas, churches, chapels, and oratories.
The Diocesan Museum of Ischia displays works dating from the 4th to the 20th century, coming from churches within the diocesan territory, especially from the ancient and current Cathedral. Other pieces have been acquired through donations from private individuals and are significant for the history and understanding of Ischia’s religious and artistic culture.
Noteworthy is the stone section, which preserves the most precious piece of the entire museum collection: the Sarcophagus with the Miracle of Bethesda, dating back to the late 4th century.
