Giardini La Mortella
Der Namen “Giardini La Mortella” bezeichnet einen großzügig angelegten Komplex – botanischer Garten, Museum und Freilichttheater in einem, der 1958 von Lady Susana Walton (1926-2010) zusammen mit ihrem Mann, dem englischen Komponisten Sir William Walton (1902-1983) kreiert wurde.
Diese Gartenanlage, entworfen nach den Zeichnungen des berühmten britischen Landschaftsarchitekten Russell Page, ist europaweit bekannt.
“La Mortella” ist in zwei Zonen aufgegliedert. Das “Tal”, mit feuchtem Mikroklima und reichlich Schatten, beherbergt eine pittoreske Sammlung von subtropischen Pflanzen, während der “Hügel”, hell und sonnig, Pflanzen aus dem Mittelmeergebiet ein artgerechtes Zuhause bietet.
Unter den zahlreichen Attraktionen findet man tropische Gewächshäuser und eine Voliere mit Papageien.
Der Garten ist äußerst fruchtbar, mit großen Bäumen, Brunnen und Bächen, farbenfrohen Blütenpflanzen und verwunschenen Ecken mit Meeresblick.
“La Mortella” ist Eigentum der Stiftung “Fondazione William Walton e La Mortella”, die den Garten und das Walton-Museum verwaltet sowie Konzertprogramme im Aufführungssaal und im Griechischen Theater organisiert.

EVERYTHING! The tour guides were so insightful and pleasant to be with during our tours. They gave us great education on the history of the cities and made sure to give us great local recommendations on things to do and places to eat after the tours.
